A Guide to the Basic Bets in Craps

Craps is an exciting game with a multitude of different wagers available. While understanding all of these types of bet can be overwhelming, you can enjoy craps by understanding a few basic wagers.

The Pass Wager

This is the most common type of craps bet and is popular because you are betting with the shooter – if he wins, you win as well. To make this bet, place your chips on the pass line. If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, then you win an amount equal to your wager (even money).casino craps

If the shooter rolls a 2, 3, or 12, then you lose your bet.

Any other number shot on the come out roll establishes the point, and the dealer will mark that number on the table with a white “on” marker.

The shooter then continues to roll the dice until one of two things happens:

• A seven comes up. You lose your bet.

• The point is rolled again. You win an amount equal to your initial wager.

The Don’t Pass Wager

This bet is less popular than a pass wager, because it is a bet against the shooter and often the rest of the bettors at the table. Craps dealers will often refer to don’t pass bets as “aliens” or “wrong bets.”

You win an amount equal to your don’t pass wager if the come out roll is a 2 or 3. You lose your don’t pass wager on a roll of 7 or 11. In most casinos, a 12 on the come out roll is a push and you get your initial bet back.

The Come Wager

The come bet is made on any roll other than the come out roll and treats that roll as your own, personal come out roll. You win this bet if a 7 or 11 is rolled, and lose on a 2, 3 or 12. If any other number is rolled, that number becomes your point.

The Don’t Come Wager

This is identical to a don’t pass wager, but is made on a roll other than the come out roll. You win if a 7 or 11 is rolled and lose on a 2 or 3, with a push on a 12. Any other rolled number becomes your point.

There are a wide variety of other bets that you can make while playing craps, but these four are the most basic and will allow you to enjoy the game while you learn the intricacies of other wagers.

Playing Casino Craps Is Much Easier Than It Seems

The dice game known as Craps may be the most intimidating table game in the entire casino world. Its seemingly incomprehensible jargon, its fast pace, and its dozens of different bets and payoffs leave most visitors to a gambling house too perplexed even to try to play. The fact is that Craps is very simple if you take the play and rules step by step. Also, experts will tell you that you should avoid most of the bets on the felt if you want to leave the table a winner.

The Shooter

The first thing beginners should do is watch a couple of rounds of Craps. It won’t be automatically any more understandable, but you can get a feel for what people are trying to do. Notice that the person throwing the dice — the shooter — rolls until a 7 or 11 is on the two dice. This is after the first roll, which is the come out roll. After that roll, 7 or 11 is crapping out and the dice go to the next player to throw.

Betting

No matter who is shooting, any players can call out bets to the boxman, who will place the chips where they need to be. Spots are on the felt for things like hard rolls, which means two of the same number coming up on the dice, such as a 2-2, 3-3, and so on. You can bet that a 6 or 8 will be next, or that a certain number will be tossed next, and much more.

Pass and Don’t Pass

The best return — and it is quite good, with only a tiny sliver of House edge — is on Pass or Don’t Pass, and the extra chips that can be bet behind these lines. It seems extremely complicated, but it actually is anything but. Think of them as Win and Don’t Win for those betting on what the shooter will roll, and you’ll get it.

Enjoy the Atmosphere

Keep in mind that you do not have to bet on every roll. It’s quite enjoyable to just watch other gamblers ride the highs and lows. Part of the excitement of the Craps table is cheering on your fellow players, and commiserating with them when they fall short. It is practically a guarantee that they’ll do the same for you, whether you’re shooting the dice or betting.

The Game of Craps

Craps is easily one of the most exciting and emotionally charged games played in a casino. It may be intimidating for a beginner, as there is a lot of shouting and yelling during it, but it’s not as complicated as it seems. Here is some basic knowledge for the game of Craps that you need to know.

Craps is a popular dice game, and the first thing you need to understand is the Passline Bet, which works like this: you put your bet on the passline before the first roller rolls their number. If they roll a 7 or an 11, you win, but a 2, 3, or a 12 and you lose. If they roll any other number, that number is now the “Point”. For example, if they roll a 5 and a 3, the total is 8, and so 8 is the Point. Then, the roller will roll again until he rolls the Point a second time before he crapsrolls a 7. If the Point (in this example, the 8) is rolled again before the 7, you win your bet and then the shooter rolls the “Come Out” roll and starts the next round, just like the first roll. But if a 7 is rolled before the Point, then you lose your bet, the roller gets the money, and the dice are passed to the next shooter.

A rule of betting is that, when the Point is first rolled and established, you can add to your Passline Bet. For example, if you started the game with $5 on the line, and the roller rolls an 8, making that Point, you can then double your bet and put $10 on it before he rolls again. The odds are as follows: if the Point is 4 or 10, the odds are 2 to 1; if it’s 5 or 9, they are 3 to 2, and if it is 6 or 8, they are 6 to 5.

As you advance, other bets you can watch for to learn include Don’t Pass, which is the exact reverse of a Passline, Laying the Odds, the opposite of taking odds, Come or Don’t Come, bets made on the Come Out rolls, Place, a less risky but less well paying bet put on the Place numbers before a 7, and many more.

As you continue the game and get into the rhythm of it, you can increase your bets into new and more dangerous ones. But understanding these basic rules of Craps is a great way to get started.
